Xperia: Ocean Journey

Location: Sevierville, Tennessee

Role: Lead Designer while employed full-time at Visual Terrain, Inc

Description: This project explores lighting as a primary tool for shaping immersive, narrative-driven environments. Across each space, linear LED elements, saturated color, and controlled contrast are used to transform otherwise minimal architectural forms into dynamic, experiential moments.

Vertical light lines establish rhythm and structure, guiding movement while reinforcing a clean, contemporary aesthetic. In transitional areas, integrated lighting frames portals and thresholds, creating a sense of entry and anticipation. These moments act as visual cues, drawing visitors deeper into the experience.

Within the exhibit space, lighting shifts toward a more atmospheric approach. Lighting and layered projections interact across floors and walls, evoking natural textures and movement. Patterned light creates a sense of depth and motion, while focused illumination highlights interactive elements and display surfaces. The result is an environment that feels alive and responsive.

Color plays a critical role throughout, with cooler tones establishing a futuristic, exploratory mood and warmer accents adding contrast and visual interest. The lighting design balances drama with functionality, ensuring that key features remain visible while maintaining an immersive ambiance.

Together, these elements create a cohesive visual language that supports exploration and storytelling. The design emphasizes how light can define space, influence perception, and elevate the overall experience into something memorable and engaging.
